The country borders Kazakhstan to the north, Uzbekistan to the west, Tajikistan to the southwest and China to the southeast. Bishkek is a relatively new city near the old Silk Road, a modern, dynamic, and constantly evolving place with a rich history dating back to the 6th century.

Bishkek is a city of contrasts whose Soviet legacy of urban planning and building is now accompanied by new hotels, business centers, shopping malls and other modern infrastructure.

Agriculture constitutes around a third of the economy of Kyrgyzstan. Cotton, tobacco, wool, meat and increasingly grains are the main products, although only tobacco and cotton are exported in large quantities.The economy also relies heavily on extraction and industrial exports, with large reserves of gold, mercury and uranium.

Kyrgyz people are famous for their hospitality. They have an expression: "When you arrive at my home is up to you. When you leave is up to me". Hospitality is rooted in the traditions of nomadic people.
